Snows of Biloxi

A poem by Marjorie Gowdy

Aerial view of clear turquoise ocean water meeting a golden sandy beach. Sunlight sparkles on the calm waves, creating a tranquil scene.

Shallow waters of Mississippi’s Sound

hold sharks, stingrays, mullet

and girls like me

Captain Dan found peace

legless falling backwards

into the gulf

Languid waters embraced me

would take years for my spent soul

to beach on the white-hot sand
